Art, Activism and Leadership (Ages 14-16)
The AGO Art, Activism and Leadership program is a leadership course for 14-16 year-olds who want not only to take part in extra-curricular activities in their school and community, but would like to create and lead programs.
This program offers a tool kit of skills, but extends far beyond that to future educational and employment experiences. Participants are given the chance to understand and practice these skills in a supportive setting, with both feedback and mentorship. Our program emphasizes out- of –the –box thinking, with an art-making component in the studio. There is an emphasis on social issues and issues of relevance to youth in school and community settings. Leadership is provided by an experienced and dedicated counselor and is supported by lead camp staff and senior AGO staff.
The main components of the skills toolkit are:
- How to develop and coordinate a program
- How to motivate others
- Group Dynamics and Conflict Mediation
- Problem solving skills
- Organizational skills
- Graphic Design skills
- Exploration of art making techniques and practice
