Evolve and advance your painting skills through experimentation and experiencing the AGO collections. Explore colour, composition and painting techniques in both representation and abstraction.
This course is geared to students with some painting experience who would like to evolve and advance their painting practice leading towards the development of a personal voice and process. Students should expect to be brushed up on basic techniques, as well explore their way through the principles of composition, rendering, colour mixing and theory. They will learn self-motivating mechanisms that will help them to create a visual language.
Each week this course will take students through exercises and techniques that will build an experimental approach and process to image and execution. Each lesson will advance your own studio practice and broaden your approach to the idea of painting with repeatable techniques for home. Each class will be presented in the context of philosophical and scientific ideas and through examples from the AGO collections and current exhibitions. A group critiques/ discussion will follow each session.
Students are responsible for the purchase of their own materials. A material list will be provided on the first day of class.
Please note: There are no classes on Monday February 18 and Monday March 11.
