Dear BFA student,

We are pleased to invite you to consider applying to a new national scholarship program. The Aimia | AGO Photography Prize Scholarship Program is awarded by the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) and Aimia, and recognizes extraordinary artistic potential among undergraduate students studying toward bachelor’s degrees, with a major or focus in photography from 1 of 8 select post-secondary institutions across Canada.

The scholarship program is an auxiliary program of the Aimia | AGO Photography Prize, Canada’s biggest photography prize and one of the largest art and culture prize programs in the world. The prize awards more than Cdn $85,000 in cash prizes directly to artists working in photography each year and is comprised of an annual exhibition at the AGO, an online exhibition, a Cdn $50,000 grand prize awarded by public vote, artist residencies and the national scholarship program.

In the following pages, you will find information outlining artistic criteria and submission guidelines, eligibility requirements and a timeline of key dates. The 3 winning students will each be awarded Cdn $7,000 in scholarships intended to cover tuition for their final year of study, and their home institution will be awarded a Cdn $1,000 honorarium. Additionally, the 3 winning students will receive a trip to Toronto to attend the announcement ceremony of the winner and meet the shortlisted artists and members of the jury, all internationally recognized photography experts.

The program is in its inaugural year, and we are aiming to make the process as simple and intuitive as possible; however, we do expect that there will be questions and learning along the way. Your faculty representative will be able to answer most questions, and we urge you to communicate with your representative, so she or he can support you in your application.

We also welcome your questions or feedback at AimiaAGOPhotographyPrize@ago.net. To find out more about the prize and its history, and to cast your vote for 2013’s winner, please visit AimiaAGOPhotographyPrize.com.

We sincerely hope you will consider applying for our scholarship and look forward to viewing your submission. The Aimia | AGO Photography Prize was founded to recognize remarkable talent in the field of contemporary photography and to stimulate a meaningful dialogue about photography in Canada and around the world. We wish you the best of luck in your studies, now and in the future.

Sincerely,
