Booking School Visits - FAQs
How far in advance should I book my visit?
Bookings must be made at least three weeks prior to the date of a guided gallery visit or artmaking visit and at least three days prior to the date of a self-guided visit.
What is the minimum group size for school visits?
The minimum group size is fifteen students for guided gallery visits and artmaking visits. These programs may be arranged for smaller groups, but still require a minimum payment to satisfy the fifteen student group minimum and cover basic costs for AGO staffing. There is no minimum group size for self-guided visits.
How many supervisors do I need for my group?
For safety and security, a minimum number of adult supervisors is required to accompany each school group (please see below for details). There is no charge for the required number of adult supervisors. Additional adults will be charged the student rate. Groups arriving without the required adult supervisor–to–student ratio may be denied entry. Teachers/adult supervisors are required to stay with their groups for the duration of the visit. Appropriate student behaviour is the sole responsibility of the teacher/adult supervisors.

JK to Grade 3 – 1:5 students
Grades 4 to 6 – 1:8 students
Grades 7 to 8 – 1:10 students
Grades 9 to 12 – 1:15 students
Do I need to submit a deposit to secure my booking?
A deposit is due upon booking to confirm reservations for the following visit types: guided gallery visits, artmaking visits, and self-guided visits of surcharged exhibitions. There is no deposit required for self-guided visits of the AGO’s permanent collection.
All school visits must be paid in full on the day of visit. The AGO accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, debit, cash or cheque. Please make all cheques payable to Art Gallery of Ontario.
TDSB schools may request to pay by purchase order in advance of the day of visit. Purchase orders must adhere to the rates, policies and procedures of the AGO.
What if I need to make changes to the number of students in my group?
Changes to the number of students participating in your program will be accepted up to two weeks prior to the day of visit.
What if I need to cancel my visit?
Notice of cancellation must be received in writing at the AGO via fax or email. If a cancellation is received less than two weeks prior to the day of visit, deposits the AGO will retain any deposits in full.
Schools will not be charged for cancelling a reservation due to inclement weather and buses are cancelled as a result.
