Canadian Eh?! Regional, Multicultural and Global Influences: History Focus (Grades 9 to 12)
Exploring all things Canadian, this program has a special focus for Grade 9 and Grade 10 Visual Arts, and Canadian and World Studies students. Grade 10 students examine artist representations of Canada, including regional identities represented in geographic and cultural landscapes and artistic traditions. Students also analyze how Canadian artists have been influenced by many diverse cultures through immigration and proximity and how this is represented in a multicultural identity. Students examine the role artists play in creating a nation’s identity, past, present and future.
Please note: This program also meets objectives of the Grades 11 and 12 curricula.
Program Concepts:
- Canadian Identity – How artists have contributed to a collective Canadian identity through history exploring themes such as urban and rural life, social and political change.
- Multicultural Influences – How artists have been influenced and inspired by global connections, such as immigration and Canadian-American relations.
Guided Gallery Visits are a student-centred learning experience that use inquiry based questioning strategies that encourage students to share their opinions and ideas about art. Students participate in activities that are interactive and that encourage critical thinking and creativity in the galleries.
Guided Gallery Visits for secondary school students are cross-curricular and cross-collection. Students will explore works of art from a variety of collection areas such as African, Canadian, Contemporary, and European. If there is a specific collection area you would like your students to visit as part of the larger program, please specify at the time of your booking.
