Canadian Eh?! Regional, Multicultural and Global Influences: Visual Arts Focus (Guided Gallery Visit)

Guided gallery visit with multicultural students

Canadian Eh?! Regional, Multicultural and Global Influences: Visual Arts Focus (Grades 9 to 12)

Using the Critical Analysis Process, students will examine how Canadian artists explore personal, regional and cultural expressions of identity and artistic traditions. Students will also analyze how Canadian artists respond to local and global forces including environmental issues and cultural influences that shape individual and multicultural identities.

Program Concepts:

  • Personal Identity - How artists are shaped by their personal and social experiences, ethnicity, culture and gender.
  • Cultural Identity - How art plays an important role in both supporting and challenging cultural myths, perceptions and stereotypes.

Guided Gallery Visits are a student-centred learning experience that use inquiry based questioning strategies that encourage students to share their opinions and ideas about art. Students participate in activities that are interactive and that encourage critical thinking and creativity in the galleries.

Guided Gallery Visits for secondary school students are cross-curricular and cross-collection.  Students will explore works of art from a variety of collection areas such as African, Canadian, Contemporary, and European.  If there is a specific collection area you would like your students to visit as part of the larger program, please specify at the time of your booking.
