Disruption of the Self in the Work of Claude Cahun

Claude Cahun (1894-1954) was a photomonteur, sculptor, poet, actress, political and sexual revolutionary, and sometime associate of the French Surrealists. In this exhibition of 28 photographic prints, Cahun rejects the prescribed image of femininity and critiques the cultural coding of the body, by using props, facial expressions and poses to disrupt the categories used to define women.
The exhibition is organized by Presentation House Gallery, Vancouver.
