Everything starts with drawing. Drawing is all about looking, making a mark and learning how to refine that mark to express emotion and re-create a reality or feeling.
Drawing 1, 2 and 3 are a series of three courses in which students are introduced to the fundamentals of drawing, with each successive course building and adding to skills and techniques of the previous class, through projects that are contemporary, engaging and fun. Introductory classes, and in particular those for 6-9 year olds, have a less traditional, more inquiry based approach, combining more traditional methods with contemporary explorations. Techniques and concepts are often introduced through innovative projects. Courses will focus on building skills and confidence through the use and understanding of materials and processes in creating works of art. Throughout these courses, students explore concepts such as line and contour, positive and negative and space, perspective and proportion, light and shadow, shading, grey scale and tone, texture, gesture and more while experimenting with an exciting variety of artist's tools, media and contemporary techniques, as well as using experimental materials for expressive and imaginative mark-making. Students use drawing materials such as pencil, charcoal, conte, pen & ink, as well as coloured drawing materials such as crayon, conte, oil and chalk pastel and watercolour.
