With events for little kids, big kids and the whole family, there is fun for everyone. Our interactive, innovative family activities change on a monthly basis and are inspired by our ever-changing exhibitions and collections.
November – Crazy about Dogs! Alex Colville. We kick off our season of Family Sundays with an ode to our most beloved of pets- the dog! Inspired by the art of Alex Colville, join us in the “AGO Dog Park” to think, act, run and jump like your favourite dog- paint your face like a dog, make dog ears and tails, run an agility course, learn tricks and perform in our pretend dog show with best in show ribbons! We even have real therapy dogs for you to pet and love. It’s a dog’s world!
December – Design and Build Michelangelo. Visit the AGO Architectural School for Families! Have fun creating structures old and new, designing and creating your own “blueprints” for your buildings a la Michelangelo- and building with the Imagination playground.
January – Three Generations Suzy Lake. Explorations in art-making using our bodies- from the perspective of three generations in a family. We look at growing up, beauty and our-selves! Create crazy-mixed up family exquisite corpse pages, imagine your adult self collages and Big and Small Me body panels.
February and March - Scratching and Sampling Basquiat. All kinds of things inspired Basquiat. He believed everything was connected and absorbed everything around him to make symbol-laden art, focusing on social issues, music, racism and African American heroes. Join us for family sundays that celebrate his art in the most innovative of ways.
April - Yarn Bombing and Knitting and More! Where street art meets yarn. We're yarn bombing, or creating "knitting graffitti" as it is called. Explore the brand new old world of textiles through weaving, arm knitting, chocheting, wrapping and stringing galore. It all starts with a little bit of yarn!
May - From the Forest to the Sea Emily Carr. Looking way down from the treetops all the way to the sea...Exploring the art of Emily Carr and the indigenous peoples connections to the land and sea.
