Fernand Léger

Modernist in the Machine Age

December 17, 2005 to March 12, 2006

Fernand Léger (1881-1955) was one of the most advanced modern artists in France during the first half of the twentieth century. He was known for his pioneering drive to be absolutely contemporary and for inventing an art that would be a witness to his times and would express the dynamism of the machine age. The works in this installation, selected from the permanent collection, demonstrate the wide range of his activity as an outstanding draughtsman, printmaker and filmmaker.
