Wool and Bark: The Resistance of Coast Salish Weavers with Salia Joseph
Thursday from Jan 5, 2017In this one time workshop, Salia Joseph, will explore different aspects of both cedar and wool weaving in her community and share some stories about the revival of these ways of knowing. "My people wear cedar and wool when they dance, grieve, marry, and when they march. Behind each piece of regalia, there is a story of a resistance. The sacred knowledge about how to gather, weave and wear our regalia was very nearly lost and is still endangered. There were and are many challenges that we face as Indigenous people that threaten the transmission of this knowledge and our capacities to learn, practice, teach and share with each other."
