Art Beyond Borders: Global Connections (Guided Gallery Visit)

Art Beyond Borders: Global Connections (Grades 3 to 8)

We live culture every day — at home, at school and at play. We are connected to the people and places around us, both locally and globally. Explore how artists express cultural exchange and influence, and respond creatively to global events and movements.

Program Concepts:

Students will explore…

  • Cultural Exchange and Influence – How artists are inspired by cultural exchange and influenced by their own culture as well as the variety of cultures around them
  • Global Events and Movements – How artists highlight and respond to events and movements that demonstrate our global interdependence

Dedicated to providing a student-centred learning experience, we use questioning strategies based on the critical analysis process and fun, interactive activities such as looking games, critical thinking exercises, sketching, movement and drama, and tactile experiences.

Guided Gallery Visits have multiple curriculum links and explore works of art from the permanent collection and some special exhibitions. Education staff determine which galleries to visit based on the program concepts and what works of art are on view the day of your visit.  If there is a specific collection area or special exhibition you would like to see as one part of the larger visit, please inquire at the time of booking.

Program Concepts:

  • Cultural Exchange - How global connections create the opportunity for cultural exchange and influencing and sharing artistic styles
  • World Events/Issues - How artists respond to world events and issues through artistic expression

Guided Gallery Visits are a student-centred learning experience that use inquiry based questioning strategies that encourage students to share their opinions and ideas about art. Students participate in activities that are interactive and that encourage critical thinking and creativity in the galleries.

Guided Gallery Visits for secondary school students are cross-curricular and cross-collection.  Students will explore works of art from a variety of collection areas such as African, Canadian, Contemporary, and European.  If there is a specific collection area you would like your students to visit as part of the larger program, please specify at the time of your booking.
