Don Shebib’s first feature length film, Goin’ Down the Road (1970) tracks the westward path Matitimers have historically taken in search of work. Joey and Pete’s journey from Cape Breton to Toronto in their 1960 Chevrolet Impala has was ranked among the Top 10 Canadian Films of All Time by the Toronto International Film Festival.

This is the first of three movie classics that explore how filmmakers have envisioned the Canadian landscape in new and unusual ways:

  • Don Shebib’s Goin’ Down the Road
  • Bruce McDonald’s Highway 61
  • Shayne Ehman's and Seth Scriver’s Asphalt Watches
