Bruce McDonald’s indie classic Highway 61 (1991) begins near Thunder Bay with a barber and a roadie who convinces him to travel down the eponymous highway towards New Orleans with a dead body strapped to the top of their car. With inspired performances by Valerie Buhagiar, Don McKeller, and Earl Pastko.

This is the second of three movie classics that explore how filmmakers have envisioned the Canadian landscape in new and unusual ways:

  • Don Shebib’s Goin’ Down the Road
  • Bruce McDonald’s Highway 61
  • Shayne Ehman's and Seth Scriver’s Asphalt Watches
