April 12 – 21, 2012
Established in 1987, the Images Festival is the largest festival in North America for experimental and independent moving image culture, showcasing the innovative edge of international contemporary media art both on and off the screen. Images has presented thousands of vanguard media-based projects in its 24-year history and is committed to an expanded concept of film and video practice.
The Images Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary edition with 10 days of thought provoking and inspiring film screenings, live performances and media art installations in the Greater Toronto Area beginning Thursday, April 12 and running until Saturday, April 21, 2012.
The Art Gallery of Ontario is pleased to partner with the Images Festival with an exhibition by local artist Annie MacDonell. The Fortune Teller features a selection of works from an ongoing series in which the artist interrogates ideas around originality, authenticity and appropriation as they relate to the production and consumption of contemporary art.
Events fall into three main categories:
ON SCREEN: 88 films and videos from 26 countries
OFF SCREEN: 26 installations at 16 local galleries, artist5run centres and public locations
LIVE IMAGES: 5 inspiring performance pieces relating to the moving image. These carefully curated events redefine the live experience from silent films with live musical accompaniment to full scale theatrical productions.
