AGO and CONTACT present a transformative installation by Suzy Lake

The Art Gallery of Ontario in collaboration with the CONTACT Toronto Photography Festival 2008 presents a site-specific installation by one of Canada's most important artists. Suzy Lake's compelling photographic mural entitled Rhythm of a True Space covers a section of the construction hoarding just outside the AGO's McCaul Street entrance.
Accessibility a Priority in the Transformed AGO

When the Art Gallery of Ontario opens in fall 2008, expanded access programs will include free after-school general admission for all Ontario secondary students.
“We’re nearing the completion of an extraordinary new home for extraordinary art,” says Matthew Teitelbaum, the AGO’s Michael and Sonja Koerner director, and CEO. “Even as we step onto the world stage as a cultural destination, we want to make the AGO accessible and welcoming to the people of Toronto and Ontario. We want them to feel this is their art museum, a place where they will connect with art and want to return time and again.”
AGO to Acquire First Cuban Work of Art

(Toronto: February 20, 2008) Postcapital, an elaborate work by renowned contemporary artist Carlos Garaicoa, will join the Art Gallery of Ontario's permanent collection as part of a five-year partnership between the AGO and Sherritt International Corporation. Over time the partnership will result in the formation of a Cuban art collection at the AGO.

The Art Gallery of Ontario and Aeroplan today announced the two Canadian and three international finalists for the inaugural Grange Prize for contemporary photography: Raymonde April, Sarah Anne Johnson, Miao Xiaochun, Huang Yan and Liu Zheng.
The AGO Examines the Artistry of Ship Models: Over 100 to Expand the Gallery's Collection

As the Transformation AGO expansion continues, visitors don't have to wait until 2008 to experience new collection areas. Two of the more than 100 ship models from the late Kenneth Thomson are on display as part of the Future Now exhibition. Both the British dockyard model the Revenge and a Napoleonic-era model exemplify the superbly crafted detail present in the entire collection. In the transformed AGO, the ship models will have a dedicated display space highlighting their history and artistry.
