Inspiration and Influence: The Creative Process in the Gallery (Guided Gallery Visit)

Inspiration and Influence: The Creative Process in the Gallery (Grades 3 to 8)

Be inspired by art, and use pencil and paper to create a hands-on response! Students engage in the creative process by analyzing works of art and sketching, sculpting, and writing their personal interpretations and ideas.

Program Concepts:

Students will explore…

  • Art as Inspiration and Influence – How artists are inspired by their personal experiences and interactions with the world around them, and influenced by other artists and artworks from the past and present
  • The Creative Process – Using original works of art as the stimulus, students will create personal creative responses that demonstrate different stages of the creative process including challenging/inspiring, imagining/generating and exploring/experimenting

Dedicated to providing a student-centred learning experience, we use questioning strategies based on the critical analysis process and fun, interactive activities such as looking games, critical thinking exercises, sketching, movement and drama, and tactile experiences.

Guided Gallery Visits have multiple curriculum links and explore works of art from the permanent collection and some special exhibitions. Education staff determine which galleries to visit based on the program concepts and what works of art are on view the day of your visit.  If there is a specific collection area or special exhibition you would like to see as one part of the larger visit, please inquire at the time of booking.

Students create collaborative and individual works of art in the gallery using gallery-approved materials.

Program Concepts:

Students will explore…

  • The Creative Process – How different activities and processes all contribute to the generation and production of new artwork.
  • Art and Inspiration  - How artwork can inform and inspire the creative process.

Students participate in activities that are interactive and that encourage critical thinking and creativity in the galleries.
