John Dickson: Cold War

November 19, 2011 – January 8, 2012

Over the past decade, Toronto artist John Dickson has developed a wide range of installations that explore the complex and troubled relationship that exists between the natural and constructed worlds. Working with representation and reduced scale has allowed Dickson to treat large global issues in a manageable and playful way. In past projects, he has chosen subjects that encompass basic aspects of contemporary life (a house, a city, an oil tanker, a nuclear submarine) and have subjected them to processes that simultaneously reference natural phenomena and technological failure. For the installation at the Art Gallery of Ontario Dickson will use this sculptural strategy to engage the viewer to a surprising and delightful end.

Opening Event: Friday, November 18, 6-8pm
