MARCH BREAK CAMP 2012: Anything Goes!
Monday March 12 to Friday March 16, 2012
9 am to 4 pm
What do we do with all those things we live with, the everyday objects that are used by us all and often just thrown away? Maybe we can change the way we look at, inhabit, and treat our world - and have lots of fun while we do it! Inspired by the work of Canadian artist Iain Baxter&, working with what he calls "creative compost", we'll be using found, re-made and recycled objects to make and explore art. We are bagging and preserving, making and mashing mixed-up still life, creating large sculpture installations with cereal boxes and soap containers, and delighting in the humour of making something from nothing. Consumerism, ecology, environmentalism, and collaboration are some of the themes we explore over the week.
Join us for a week of fun and innovation!
The Weston Family Learning Centre is our base camp for the week. The gallery is open and full of inspiration for young artists. Using original works of art in the collections and the exhibition Baxter& as inspiration, campers create amazing art projects with a wide variety of media and techniques – from painting to assemblage to printmaking and more.
March Break Camp at the AGO provides campers ages 6 to 13 a studio experience built into the heart of a day-camp. Taught by experienced artist-instructors, our camps are designed to develop technical skills, build confidence and nurture each child's creative imagination. We strive to create an environment that is non-competitive and open-ended, and build memories and friendships that last a lifetime.
At the AGO March Break Camp, we love to make ART.
