Mark Titchner

Throughout his residency, UK artist Mark Titchner will come to Toronto to develop a series of billboards, posters and large-scale wall-drawings that will be installed throughout the city and inside the gallery in the AGO's Community and Toronto Now galleries. Drawing on his exploration of themes related to consumption, belief systems and marketing techniques, Titchner's immersive wall drawings and paintings will consider how text and bold statements can be used to inspire, communicate to the masses, and to bring communities of people together. The artworks produced throughout his residency will be developed and executed in conjunction with youth from Oasis Skateboard Factory and the AGO Youth Council.

About the Artist

Mark Titchner's sculptures, wall drawings and videos explore themes of consumption, belief systems and marketing techniques. His immersive wall drawings and paintings often consider how text and bold statements can be used to inspire, communicate to the masses, and to bring communities of people together. His works often confront the viewer with a proposition for a type of modern revolution. A London based artist, Titchner was a Turner Prize nominee in 2006, was showcased at the Venice Biennale in 2007, and has had solo exhibitions at the notable Peres Projects, Berlin, BALTIC, Gateshead, and Vilma Gold, London.
