Two Centuries of French Drawings from the Collection of Jeffrey E. Horvitz
February 20 to April 18, 1999
The Horvitz Collection is the most comprehensive private collection of 17th- and 18th-century French master drawings. This exhibition, covering the period from the late Renaissance through Neo-Classicism, will include approximately 110 drawings by the most celebrated artists working in Paris, including Boucher, Fragonnard, Lorrain, Poussin and Watteau. Subjects range from landscapes and portraits to figure, genre and compositional studies. The drawings reflect the incredible diversity of styles that existed simultaneously and responded to changes in taste during the 17th and 18th centuries.
