Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque Treasures from the Thomson Collection of European Art

This course will focus on objects from the Thomson Collection of European Decorative Arts. In each session, we will investigate a variety of objects that reflect different aspects of the collection, including medieval ivory diptychs and illuminated prayer books for use in private devotion; secular objects reflecting the art of courtly love; Renaissance and Baroque mounted ware for the princely Kunstkammer; the Portrait; the Memento Mori; and Baroque reliefs of history and myth. Limited registration.

Christine Kralik is pursuing graduate work in Art History at the University of Toronto, with a focus on the art of the Middle Ages. Kralik served as Curatorial Assistant for Transformation AGO. She has previously taught courses in Medieval Art, Book Illumination and Gothic Architecture at the University of Toronto.
