Learn how the human form has been represented using photography from the beginning of the nineteenth century to the present day. Students will explore how gesture, costume, props and setting support the artist’s use of the human image, while also focusing on the technical and artistic effects of lighting and camera control. The class will feature visits to the exhibition Light My Fire: Some Propositions about Portraits and Photography to discuss the creative possibilities of portraiture and ways of communicating with and through photographs.
