Groundbreaking AGO exhibition Camera Atomica traces photographic legacy of “the bomb” and nuclear energy

Featuring over 150 photographs, from 1945 to 2012 including work by Harold Edgerton, the Canadian Atomic Energy Board, Robert Del Tredici, NASA, Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, Kenji Higuchi, Carol Condé and Karl Beveridge, the exhibition is accompanied by a selection of atomic-era artifacts. Camera Atomica will be on view at the AGO until Nov. 15, 2015.

Trained as a photographer, Andrews (b. 1956) has been practising since the late 1970s, exploring topics as varied as AIDS, surveillance, war, memory, chaos theory and technology.

To celebrate the Feb. 7, 2014, opening of Jean-Michel Basquiat: Now’s the Time, the first significant retrospective of the artist’s work in Canada, the 19+ event will see the AGO transform itself into an after-hours artistic and cultural hub from 7 to 11:30 p.m. featuring food and drinks, interactive installations, a panel discussion and live performances, including one by legendary hip-hop recording artist and DJ Grandmaster Flash, one of the founding fathers of hip hop and the first DJ and hip-hop artist (alongside the Furious Five) to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
