From A to ZINE: Full-Day Studio Visit (Grades 9 to 12)
Create original and repurposed art and text in your own limited edition zine!
Students will examine the ideas of culture and identity through works of art from the AGO’s expansive collection in this full-day studio program. Informed and inspired, the students will work in groups to generate their own personal ideas while considering the nature of zines as a medium of communication. Using type, printing, collage, and drawing, students will create and publish an in-studio zine that reflects their sense of identity and the cultures they are immersed in.
Studio Visits take place in the Dr. Anne Tanenbaum Gallery School where students unleash their creativity and create art in a 6,000 square feet open studio space. Students will be inspired by sculptures from the AGO’s permanent collection displayed within a visible behind-the-scenes vault storage area located in the studio. Working with experienced artist educators, students will experiment with traditional and non-traditional materials and techniques to create individual and collaborative works of art focused on the creative process.
Note: In an open studio environment, creativity can be a messy process! Please ask students to wear comfortable clothing that is easily washable. Aprons are not provided.
