My First Studio (Studio Visit)

My First Studio (JK to Grade 2)

Early learners engage in play-based artmaking focused on the elements of design!  Exploring colour, line, shape, and texture, students begin by participating in constructive, open-ended play using everyday objects in response to original works of art. Students are then guided through techniques in painting, drawing, and collage to create a landscape that exercises their imaginations and expresses their personal creativity.

Studio Visits take place in the Dr. Anne Tanenbaum Gallery School where students unleash their creativity and create art in a 6,000 square feet open studio space. Students will be inspired by sculptures from the AGO’s permanent collection displayed within a visible behind-the-scenes vault storage area located in the studio. Working with experienced artist educators, students will experiment with traditional and non-traditional materials and techniques to create individual and collaborative works of art focused on the creative process.

Note: In an open studio environment, creativity can be a messy process!  Please ask students to wear comfortable clothing that is easily washable. Aprons are not provided.
