Volunteering at the Art Gallery of Ontario

Volunteer Opportunities

Meet new and interesting friends, and be a vital part of one of the best art museums in Canada! We’ve got inspiring art, an impressive building, and dedicated volunteers. Applicants, like our existing volunteers, should posses a love and appreciation of art, a flexible attitude for dealing effectively with the public, basic computer skills (including email), and an understanding that reliability is key to success in any role.

Volunteers at the AGO number nearly 800 strong! Their time, enthusiasm and expertise contribute to an outstanding experience for museum visitors in all areas of the Gallery.

HOW TO APPLY:

We post volunteer vacancies as soon as they become available. Check back often for a placement that better suits your skills and interests. Please note, we do update this site regularly.

Please note we do not offer high school co-op placements. If you have any further questions, you can contact us by email at volunteer_recruiters@ago.net.

YOUTH Opportunities (age 15-18)

March Break Volunteer (open to youth age 15 – 18)

We’re looking for a small team of youth volunteers to help us with drop-in family programming for March Break. In this role, you’ll be assisting small children one-on-one with art-projects, as well as helping to prep materials (cut and paste, etc.) You’ll enjoy this role if you like children, and aren’t afraid to get messy.
Required Availability: Our program runs from Saturday March 12 – Sunday March 20. Volunteers can choose between weekend and weekday shifts, 10:30am – 4:30pm (more details on application form).
Application deadline: Friday, February 26

To apply, please fill out the online form.

ADULT Opportunities

Information Guide Volunteer

As our visitors first points of contact, Information Guides are our front-line ambassadors, helping us deliver an extraordinary visitor welcome! Along with a friendly welcome, information guides assist visitors with way-finding, provide general information about the AGO and our interpretive programs (daily talks and tours), and also help visitors establish a plan for their visit. This is a great introductory role to volunteering at the Gallery, and a good role for outgoing volunteers, who enjoy engaging with the public. A customer-service background is preferred.
Required Availability: This is a bi-weekly placement. Shifts: Saturday morning and afternoon, Sunday morning and afternoon, Friday night (more details on application form).
Application deadline: posted until filled

To apply, please fill out the online form.

Note: we update this site as volunteer positions become available; please check back regularly.
