Volunteer Opportunities

Meet new and interesting friends, and be a vital part of one of the best art museums in Canada! We’ve got inspiring art, an impressive building, and dedicated volunteers. Applicants, like our existing volunteers, should posses a love and appreciation of art, a flexible attitude for dealing effectively with the public, basic computer skills (including email), and an understanding that reliability is key to success in any role.

Volunteers at the AGO number nearly 800 strong! Their time, enthusiasm and expertise contribute to an outstanding experience for museum visitors in all areas of the Gallery.

HOW TO APPLY:

We post volunteer vacancies as soon as they become available. Check back often for a placement that better suits your skills and interests. Please note, we do update this site regularly.

If you have any further questions, you can contact us by email at volunteer_recruiters@ago.net.

For those that recently applied to Information Guide and Family Sunday placements, thank you for your applications. We have now filled many of our vacancies but will keep your applications on file for future recruitment in these areas.

YOUTH and ADULT Opportunities (age 15 and above)

Audio Guide – Basquiat Exhibition

As well as promoting the use of the Audio Guide (a handheld, customized "tour" of the exhibition, kind of like a cell phone), our volunteers will help our staff respond to general inquiries, distribute units, demonstrate use, and troubleshoot. You’ll enjoy this role most if you’re an art lover, who likes working with the public in a team-based setting. Enjoy the excitement and crowds that a temporary, ticketed exhibition can bring! Great for volunteers with short-term availability and anyone who wants to gain volunteer experience in a gallery setting.

Required Availability: Various weekday and weekend shifts available (Tuesday – Sunday), morning, afternoon and evening.
Orientation and Training is scheduled for mid-January 2015.

Note: This is a temporary volunteer placement that runs the extent of the exhibition: February 7 – May 10, 2015.

To apply, please fill out the online form.

Interpretive Guide – Basquiat Exhibition

Interpretive Guides with the Basquiat exhibition will offer "pop-up" 10-minute art chats on themes that are explored in the Basquiat exhibition: identity, racism, power structures, class struggle and politics. Full training is provided. We’re looking for outgoing applicants who are comfortable public-speakers. We encourage current post-secondary students with a fine art/art history/ history/social justice background to apply. We’ve intentionally scheduled this placement to run on busy Wednesday evenings.

Required Availability: Wednesday evenings, 6 – 8:30 pm.
Candidates must be able to attend a training session on Monday January 19 or Tuesday January 20.

Note: This is a temporary volunteer placement that runs the extent of the exhibition: February 7 – May 10, 2015.

To apply, please fill out the online form.

Note: we update this site as volunteer positions become available; please check back regularly.
