Volunteer Opportunities

Meet new and interesting friends, and be a vital part of one of the best art museums in Canada! We’ve got inspiring art, an impressive building, and dedicated volunteers. Applicants, like our existing volunteers, should posses a love and appreciation of art, a flexible attitude for dealing effectively with the public, basic computer skills (including email), and an understanding that reliability is key to success in any role.

Volunteers at the AGO number nearly 800 strong! Their time, enthusiasm and expertise contribute to an outstanding experience for museum visitors in all areas of the Gallery.

YOUTH Opportunities (age 15-18)

Summer Art Camp Volunteer

We recruit approximately 130 youth volunteers (age 15 and above) each summer for our art camp – our most popular youth placement of the year! Summer art camp volunteers are the “best friends” of camp. Your role is to help supervise and support our young campers, as well as prepare art supplies, provide one-one-one art-making assistance, and play games/eat lunch with our young campers. If you’re positive, creative, an early-riser, and someone who likes working in a team, we want you!
Required Availability: 80 hours over two weeks (Monday to Friday): 8:15am – 4:15pm daily, for one two week session of camp. Two week session run throughout July and August. More details are provided on the volunteer application form.

ADULT Opportunities

Dr. Mariano Elia Hands-On Centre Volunteer

Do you love working with children and are passionate about learning? We’re currently looking for volunteers to assist in our Hands-On Centre/ Activity play space. This volunteer placement is ideal for teacher candidates/ ECE students who are looking for more hands-on experience, or anyone who really loves to support and help grow the curiosity and imagination of children! Hands-On Centre visitors are accompanied in the play space with their adult parent-caregivers (this is not a drop-off space). Our volunteers help and instruct families with a variety of art-making and creative play activities (puzzles, games, costumes, books and simple arts and crafts,) and also help us keep our busy centre well-stocked and tidy! This is a perfect placement for post-secondary students looking for summer volunteer opportunities, and for folks who want to join us for a more long-term role.
Required Availability: Various weekday and weekend shifts available. The Hands-On Centre is open Tuesday – Friday, 10:30am – 2:00pm and weekends 10:30am – 4:00pm. Please see application form for more details.
