Oh the reluctant museum companion. You know who you are: that friend who hesitantly agreed to check out this or that at the museum, dragging those weary legs across 5 levels of art. Well, Mammalian Diving Reflex, the AGO’s Artist in Residence, has a treat for you. Head up to levels 4 and 5 and we’ll have a team ready to drag you around the galleries on an inflatable device along a course curated by teens. What better way to experience contemporary art than being dragged around?
Mammalian Diving Reflex is a research-art atelier dedicated to investigating the social sphere through art. They create site and social-specific works, providing opportunities for dialogue across ages, cultures, and socio-economic backgrounds. Headed by artistic director Darren O'Donnell, Toronto-based Mammalian Diving Reflex will be the AGO's Artist-in-Residence this winter. Mammalian's residency will engage with the neighbourhood surrounding the AGO, focusing on the relationship between local youth and the gallery.
