Looking ahead to Fall 2008

The nearly transformed AGO closed its doors on October 7 as we install thousands of artworks in 110 galleries. We haven’t set the reopening date yet but are aiming for Fall 2008.
Meanwhile, you can keep in touch throughout the closure. The AGO’s Gallery School will continue providing a full slate of classes for adults and children at its temporary location just down the street from the AGO at 60 McCaul. For example, starting in October, a new session of the “Side by Side” class will take place every Saturday and Sunday, offering parents, grandparents, caregivers and children the chance to discover art and creativity together. There’s also a 30-week intensive Advanced Studio in the Visual Arts program for students ages 14 to 18 who are considering post-secondary studies in fine arts or design. Also, area schools will continue to enjoy studio visits to the Gallery School, while March Break camps and Teens Behind the Scenes youth programs will continue to be available.
During the closure you can also explore the AGO’s permanent collection online through an innovative web project called Collection X (www.collectionx.museum). This fully interactive website allows you to explore works from the Gallery’s collection, curate your own exhibitions and connect with other users.
Also continuing is the AGO’s Art Rental and Sales Gallery, located at 481 University Avenue where you’ll find an extensive selection of contemporary art from Canadian artists, galleries and dealers. Artwork is available for sale to the public, or can be rented out by AGO members for as little as $20 per month.
You can also shop online at www.shop.ago.net where you will find a beautiful array of items including prints, books and giftware. Great for gift-giving or for those self-indulgent moments, our online shop has it all for you.
Also be watching for the AGO is a Go team of volunteers who will be at multicultural festivals and community events throughout the GTA.
