A human figure, dressed in long robes, stands on a small carved beast. Not recognizably male or female, the figure has an upraised right arm and holds a shield in its left hand.

A large rectangular slot, positioned vertically on the back of each shoulder likely held wings, which are now missing. There is a large hole in the centre of the upper back, which may have held a rod to attach the sculpture to a wall. A small hole in the back of the robes is likely accidental damage. There is another hole in the centre of the angel's upraised right hand, where a lance, now missing, would have been inserted. A hole in the top of the head has been plugged.

There are traces of original pigment on the surface of the sculpture, including a section where the original pattern of paint is visible, under the upraised right arm. Colours include red, blue and a yellow/ochre.

The small beast under the archangel's feet is missing both head and tail ends. There is a large hole in the beast's right end, which may have been used to insert a rod to attach an additional section.
