AGO Institutional Archives
The Research Library and Archives houses the institutional archives documenting the history of the Gallery since 1900. Series most used by scholars include the exhibition files, publicity scrapbooks (documenting Gallery exhibitions and all other activity), architectural plans, photographs (circa 10,000), records of the Gallery School, correspondence (with art dealers, artists, collectors, scholars). Because of the regularity with which several artists' groups held exhibitions at the Gallery these records are a rich resource for research into the activities of the Group of Seven, the Canadian Group of Painters, the Ontario Society of Artists, and other Ontario (and Canadian) art societies.
To ensure we are able to assist our researchers, access to the Archives is by appointment only. All researchers must register, and are required to comply with the Regulations for Researchers.
Finding Aids
Detailed finding aids are available onsite for most Gallery records.
